Does using traditional vows make your wedding less intimate?

We want to do definetly write our own...........maybe sprinkle a few of the traditional lines here and there.........

We are going for an afrocentric theme..so writing your own vows seem to be an important element!

I've been thinking about doing traditional but also incorporating our own vows some kind of way. :headscrat

No, I don't think that using traditional vows is less intimate. It's all about the feelings behind the words and not really the words themselves.

DH and I have always wanted to write our vows, but with going to the JP, we said the traditional....and it wasnt bad, lol. There's something inheritly (sp?) profound about reciting the same vows to your loved one that perhaps millions have recited to THEIR loved ones before.

With THAT said, DH and I wouldn't mind putting our poetic mind to use (poetry has always been infused into our relationship) and writing our vows for our renewal (garaunteed to make us cry like babies, lol).

We did both. Right b4 we went into the traditional vows Pastor allowed us to say some words to each other. So we professed our "undying love" at that point. Then went into the traditional vows.

It was quite romantic. In fact Gerald knocked me off my feet with his that i forgot what i was going to say. So i just said, "i love you, booboo!".
